Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started with MWSS | Rules | Event Questions

Q:  What is the Midwest Sprint Series?

A: The MWSS is a World Karting Association divisional series.  That means it is WKA sanctioned, competes under WKA rules and allows a points transfer to the respective WKA national series points at the end of the season.  The MWSS is an independently operated, non-profit corporation that sanctions itself under WKA.

Q: What is WKA?

A: WKA is the World Karting Association.  As seen on the WKA web site, www.worldkarting.com, the World Karting Association (WKA) is also a member-owned, non-profit corporation formed in 1971 to regulate and promote the sport of competitive kart racing. They establish the rules and procedures to set standards by which to sanction tracks and to conduct annual championships for various types of karting. WKA has grown to over 10,000 active members and 120 sanctioned tracks nationwide to make it the largest sanctioning body for kart racing in the United States and one of the largest in the world.

Q: How do MWSS points transfer to a WKA national?

A:  MWSS supports 2 of the WKA national series’, the Gold Cup (4-cycle sprint) and the Manufacturer’s Cup (2-cycle sprint).  Any class offered by the MWSS that is also a national class in one of these series is eligible for a divisional transfer.

As of 2011, WKA transfers 10 points per regional event participated in toward your WKA National points standing, with a minimum of two events needed to get a transfer.  Then you can earn up to 40 points by attending 4 races, and 4 more bonus points by attending all the races in a particular regional series.  See the WKA rule book for details.

MWSS automatically submits the points for all members to WKA at the end of the season.  Some MWSS classes may require the member to select the specific class that points will be transferred to/from as outlined in the MWSS rulebook.

Q: What do I need to do to compete in a MWSS event?

A: All you need to do to compete at one of our events is show up with your kart and gear according to WKA & MWSS rules for the class(es) you choose to participate in.  You can pre-enter using the online entry forms, but registration is available at the track the morning of the event.

Q: How do I become a MWSS member?

A: You can join MWSS prior to coming to an event by using our online form and sending it in with a check or money order.  We also accept membership applications at each event.

MWSS memberships are good for the calendar year.  Members may receive a card or sticker with their assigned membership number to bring to each event.

Q: How do I become a WKA member?

A: You can join WKA via their web site where you can download a membership form to send in with payment.  You can also join WKA at any MWSS event.

WKA memberships are good for one year from the time you join.  Members will receive a membership card with their assigned membership number.

Q: What kind of awards does MWSS give away?

A:  At the request of our members, we give nominal awards (most recently medallions) to the top 3 finishers in our Kid Kart, Sportsman and Junior classes.  Senior drivers do not receive event awards.  All first place finishers receive a MWSS feature winner decal.

We reserve most of our funds from the season for awards and prizes at the season-end banquet.  Crystal eagles are awarded to each class champion and silver cups to the remaining top 5 in most classes, depending on participation.  We also give away, via raffle based on event participation, various prizes.  Prizes vary from year to year, but typically include tires, digital gauges, motors, clutches, karts and more.
